Joshua Goldsmith CFP®, CRPC®

Executive Vice President, Retirement Advisor
Can you share a favorite kernel of wisdom for those just starting to invest and save?

I wouldn’t say it’s wisdom but “just get started”. Like most things in life, it’s easy to put off. Sometimes it’s hard to start putting money away for the future when you need it now. We help people get started and get organized. That’s one reason our clients tend to contribute more than the national average to their retirement accounts.

What’s a favorite part of helping people save for retirement?

I enjoy the beginning. Working with clients to get them financially organized and creating a plan for retirement, even if their retirement date isn’t for a couple of decades.

Please share a few of your career highlights.

One career highlight is when I attained the CFP® designation. It was a lot of hard work and like most things that involve hard work, I felt a great sense of accomplishment when I passed the final exam. Another highlight happened recently and that was my 15th anniversary of not just working in this industry but working at SCM. A lot of people have trouble finding out what they want to do for a living or finding a company that is a good fit and I am lucky enough to have found both.

What personal traits do you believe most positively impact your job?

I think the most impactful trait that helps my client is that I am an optimist. Whether it be the markets, economy or something that negatively effects their personal financial situation I will always try to find the silver lining in any situation.

What would surprise us to learn about you?

I used to be a high school substitute science teacher.

What are your personal interests and passions?

Spending time with family, especially my wife Amy and our two girls. I like cooking and anything sports related, especially going to Orioles games at Camden Yards.
