What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned from your clients?
Just to listen to them. Others can sell them something—we listen to their needs and then try to provide solutions to their problems. Also, clients want to be educated about their investments.
What do your clients keep repeating when describing their experience with Scarborough?
They like the personal touch Scarborough provides. You’re not just a number on a computer program when you work with us. We have no call center. Clients like that they get their own advisor—and that advisor knows them and their own unique situation. That’s why so many clients stay with us for years.
What’s the most exciting and rewarding aspect of helping people save for retirement?
I’m proud when clients tell me they could not have done it without me. I like knowing I am really making a difference in people’s lives.
Can you share a favorite kernel of wisdom for those just starting to invest and save?
Make sure you increase your savings a little bit every year, so you do not notice the difference as much.
